January is National Thyroid Awareness Month

The thyroid is a small gland located in the middle of the lower neck, which produces hormones that regulate many functions including temperature, weight gain, and weight loss.  Many Americans experience various problems with the functioning of their thyroid. 

Some red flags to watch for are:

• sudden weight gain or increase in body fat
• inability to lose weight despite proper diet and exercise

I have been suffering with thyroid problems since i was 16 years old. I hold this cause very near and dear to my heart. There is alot of heartache and discomfort for those of us who suffer from any form of thyroid disease. I suffered from Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis before having a complete thyroidectomy in 2004. To this day i still struggle! But it does get better with the right treatment and support!
